Frequently Asked Questions

  • When Night Comes is an interactive show and experience across multiple rooms. You will enter and experience the show in a small group with other attendees. You will be guided from room to room by the performers, watch and engage with show performances and be invited to partake in a drink or two. You may be invited to interact with the performers, but you don’t have to, and you can choose to observe from a distance.

  • Immersive theatre is a style of live performance. A traditional show means the audience view the action from a single point, usually their seat in an auditorium. During an immersive experience, audiences are often able to move around spaces, effectively ‘on the set’ with the performers and with the action happening around them. Audience members can choose to interact with the cast, or to be observers on the fringe. The result is an engaging and personal experience for each and every audience member. Australia’s most acclaimed immersive theatre productions were A Midnight Visit and Love Lust Lost, also by Broad Encounters.

  • The performers may invite you to interact with them, but you don’t have to speak or participate physically in the performance, aside from moving from room to room as guided by the performers and When Night Comes staff.

  • Yes. You can choose to have alcoholic cocktails or mocktails with non alcoholic and low ABV spirits as part of your journey. You make this choice when you purchase your ticket. If you’re not sure if you have done this correctly, or have changed your mind on which option you would like please contact us. Drinks are prepared ahead of time to be served during the show, so it’s important we know your choice in advance and changes within a week of your show date cannot be accommodated.

  • Both tickets include beverages as part of your show experience. A VIP Ticket gets you closest to the action, putting you in the best “seats” in the house. A Standard Ticket is still close to the action, but you will need to stand for the majority of the performance.

  • Your performance start time is the ticket type that you selected at booking. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to this start time. For instance, if you booked a 7.30pm session, please arrive at the venue by 7.15pm at the latest. Due to the nature of the show, latecomers cannot be admitted.

The foyer bar will be open 45 minutes before our first show of the evening, serving a variety of delicious beverages.

  • Due to the age of The Austral Theatre building, the show is not fully accessible. To be able to see the full show, you will need to be able to navigate two sets of stairs. If organised in advance, we can have a wheelchair available for use on the second floor. Please contact hello@broadencounters.com for accessibility details. There are significant amounts of standing in the show, please also contact us if you require a seat for accessibility reasons.

This performance is also suitable for vision and hearing impaired attendees, though you may wish to bring an interpreter to assist you.

We accept companion cards. To book a companion card ticket, please email us with a copy of your card and details of which session you would like to attend. There are two options for a companion card ticket: the companion can attend at zero cost, and see the show but not be served any beverages, or you can pay a surcharge that covers the cost of the drinks. This optional surcharge will be in the realm of $30-$40, but is yet to be fully finalised.

  • Attendees must be 18 years + to attend When Night Comes.
